Mission Profile

To be a Catholic Church living in communion and participating in the Mission of Christ for the salvation of all.

St Joseph Shungu Parish .

It was established in 1953 by Marist Brothers . Due to the nature of the parish it never got a priest residing at the parish until 2001 when we had Fr Hugo . Before Fr Hugo the parished was only served by priests from St Barnabas in Mbizo . After Fr Hugo there was Fr Antony Wey who came in 2005 and was residing at the parish . There were sisters too Sr Jangara , Sr Rubaya , Sr Mangwende and Sr Pound . All these sisters were from SJI . After Fr Wey we had Fr Chigova in 2009 . We also saw the coming in of Br Samson Mudadi , Sr Morosi , Sr Svondo Fungai and Sr Agness Mutanhaurwa . After Fr Chigova we had Fr Marko Mudzingwa , we also had Sr Anna Mutema . Fr Mudzingwa was followed by Fr Musindo in 2015 . We had Fr Madziva coming for a short period of time in 2019 . In 2021 we saw the coming in of Fr Kwiri F replacing Fr Musindo . We also had Sr Caroline Shonhiwa from Mary Ward sisters but was just for short period of time and that was in 2020 . Until today we still have Sr Morosi , Sr Mutanhaurwa , Sr Svondo , Br Mudadi and Fr Kwiri . In 2021 we saw the coming of Fr Mangoma as student and as assistant priest . St Joseph Parish is at the heart of resettlement area . Like any other parish it comprises of three out stations namely Igogo 6km from the main Centre , Mopane 64km from the centre as well as Pauldale 71km away from the main Parish . All these out stations they get one mass each per month . At the main Parish we get one mass together with the community on Sunday at 0800hrs . The 2 schools also get one mass each every week , wednesday Shungu High and Thursday Bembezaan Primary . Because of the nature of the area the population is not that all big . The main centre has about 150 parishners excluding students during school days . All the guilds are very well represented . We have around 200 parishners from our 3 out stations as well . Interestingly in the era of Fr Hugo and Fr Wey there have been many people coming to the parish the main reason being that , these 2 priests used to help them financially , with school fees for their children , with food as well and clothes too . After the departure of these two priests the numbers dwindled as well . We normally team up together with parishners from out stations especially when we have visitors like the Bishop's visits . Interestingly the 2 schools boast of a vast virgin land which if can be properly used can help in the growth of the 2 schools , the parish and the Dioces at large . Within the land there is a dam and a perenial river that can be used as source of water in any agricultural activities that can be undertaken .
